Dancers. This is a series of works on the dance cycle initially observing in the dance studio, making preliminary sketches and taking photographs followed by the dancer posing for a number of two/three hour sessions at the artist’s studio in Childers Street in Deptford (SE8). It involves painting the various stages from warming up, through class exercises in ballet as well as movement in modern and contemporary dance. It tries to show the stresses and strains of dancing which might appear simple and graceful and the series is being developed to include ethnic dance forms such as Indian dancing. |
